Visitors Help Pay for the Places Residents Love: In Irving, That Added Up to $901 Per Household in 2025

IRVING, Texas, May 7, 2026
IRVING, Texas, May 7, 2026 /PRNewswire/ — Most residents do not connect a hotel booking with an arts center, a convention with a concert venue or a visitor’s restaurant tab with their own tax bill.
But in Irving, Texas, visitor spending is helping support the public places and amenities residents use every day.
Visitor Spending Residents Can See
Visitors spent a record $4.09 billion in Irving in 2025, generating $85.5 million in local property, sales and hotel occupancy tax revenue, the equivalent of $901 per Irving household, according to the Irving Visitor Industry Performance Study by Future Partners.
That revenue helps support public assets like the Irving Arts Center, Levy Event Plaza, the Toyota Music Factory entertainment complex and the Irving Convention Center at Las Colinas.
Tourism’s Local Tax Impact
For residents, the impact of tourism is often invisible. A hotel stay, convention, concert or restaurant visit can help generate public revenue that reduces pressure on local taxpayers and supports civic amenities.
“These results show that tourism is not just about visitors. It is about Irving residents,” said Mayor Rick Stopfer. “When people choose Irving for meetings, events, dining and entertainment, their spending supports local jobs, strengthens our economy and helps reduce the tax burden on households.”
The Community Vitality Wheel in Action
The results reflect what Maura Gast, executive director of Visit Irving, has long described as the Community Vitality Wheel: build a place where people want to visit, and you build a place where people want to live. Where people want to live, people want to work. Where people want to work, business wants to be. And where business wants to be, people want to visit.
Destinations International adopted the framework in 2023 as a model for explaining how destination promotion contributes to community health.
Meetings Drive Momentum
Tourism supported 25,286 jobs in Irving in 2025 and generated $920 million in visitor industry payroll. Conferences and group meetings alone accounted for $802 million in economic impact, reinforcing Irving’s role as a major meetings and events destination.
Since 2018, visitor spending in Irving has grown by more than $1.1 billion.
Growing Leisure Travel Comes Next
“The Irving Convention Center at Las Colinas keeps a very busy calendar of meetings and events,” said Gast. “We are working to grow the leisure travel market to build on this momentum. While we are proud of our results, we know the work continues.”
